The City of Fresno, California issues a Proclamation for International Assistance Dog Week
The Honorable Mayor Ashley Swearengin of the City of Fresno, California, has by Proclamation recognized International Assistance Dog Week between August 5-11, 2012.
The proclamation states that assistance dogs include service dogs, guide dogs, hearing alert dogs, alert/seizure response dogs and dogs that respond to medical conditions such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes, epilepsy, panic attack, anxiety attack or post traumatic stress disorder.
The proclamation further states that assistance dogs transform the lives of their human partners with physical and mental disabilities, serving as devoted companions, helpers, aides, best friends and closely family members.
The proclamation then states that International Assistance Dog Week provides an opportunity to raise the awareness of the selfless way all types of assistance dogs assist individuals with mitigating their disability-related limitations.
Canine Partners For Life, which is a non-profit organization is situated out of Cochranville, Pennsylvania, works to increase the independence and quality of life of individuals with disabilities by providing trained assistance dogs and support service.
Canine Partners For Life, is joining forces with assistance dog partners, organizations, and concerned citizens throughout Fresno, California and America to raise awareness of assistance dogs and observe International Assistance Dog Week.
Edward Crane, who submitted this event, wants to recognize and thank his Assistance Dog, a yellow Labrador retriever, named Alepo, who warns him of his seizures and helps him with his balance, every day. Thank you Alepo for being my partner. His Assistance Dog has help restore his life to a level of “normalcy” and he is extremely grateful.
Finally, I would like to thank the Mayor of Fresno, CA, Mayor Ashley Swearengin and the Mayor of Clovis, CA, Mayor Jose Flores for showing their tremendous support and appreciation for our important assistance dogs. Thank you.
