International Assistance Dog Week (IADW)
TV PSA Contact form and Instructions

We are working with CBS to coordinate the production of a public service announcement (PSA) telling people about International Assistance Dog Week starring Pauley Perrette from the CBS TV show, NCIS.

We need your help to make this happen.

CBS wants us to contact local TV stations, asking them to run the PSA. We will then send our list of TV stations we have contacted, showing a high level of commitment in various media markets, to CBS in LA.

Can you help by calling TV stations and/or cable companies in your area?
Download Contact form to fill in (Instructions are included)

INSTRUCTIONS
Call as many stations as you can. If you have limited time, first call the CBS station in your area.

When calling a CBS station, you can say you are calling about a PSA starring Pauley Perrette of the TV show NCIS right away, as this is a star on their network.

When calling other stations, you might want to just say we have a PSA for International Assistance Dog Week and not necessarily mention Pauley Perrette’s name. Sometimes stations from other networks won’t want to play a spot featuring a star from a rival network.

You can also call the local office of cable TV companies and ask them to run the PSA for International Assistance Dog Week. Just fill out the form (download form below) the same as you would for a TV station, putting the cable company name instead of station name. NCIS is syndicated on the USA Network.

What to say when you call
Ask for the person who is in charge of PSAs on the station or at the cable company.

Once you have that person, tell them you are calling to ask if they would commit to running a PSA for International Assistance Dog Week. If it’s a CBS station, say it’s a spot starring Pauley Perrette of NCIS. If it is not a CBS station, you don’t need to say that.

Tell them IADW is August 5-11, 2012. Ask if they could run the PSA as part of their rotation for a month, July 15-August 15. (If you/they want to know more about IADW, go to www.assistancedogweek.org)

Get the person you are talking to give you their name, title, phone and email so you can fill that all in. Also fill in the commitment. If they can’t run it for a month, ask what they can do and fill that in.

That’s it! Just send your completed form back by May 11 and keep a copy.
Where to return your form is in the downloadable form or contact us to get more information.

Download Contact form to fill in (Instructions are included)

Here’s an example of information to collect:

Station name/number/network: KRQE 13/ CBS
City/State: Albuquerque, NM
PSA contact person at station
Name: Bill Case
Title: Creative services director
Phone: (505) 764-5215
Email: info@krqe.com

Commitment: Will run PSA in rotation from July 15-August 15

Download Contact form to fill in (Instructions are included)

Canine Companions will cap off International Assistance Dog Week by placing more than 10 adults and children with disabilities with new assistance dogs August 17.

During International Assistance Dog Week, more than 10 adults and children and their families will be hard at work training to receive an assistance dog from Canine Companions for Independence. For many, this journey began over a year ago when they first applied for an assistance dog to help them live a more independent life. They come from all over the Northwest Region and have a wide range of disabilities. They will get to celebrate all of their hard work on August 17, when they will graduate from training with their new highly trained Canine Companions for Independence assistance dogs.

The graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, August 17 at the Center for Spiritual Living (2075 Occidental Road in Santa Rosa) at 1:45 p.m. The ceremony is open to the public with free admission.

The dogs graduating have been in training for approximately two years and know over 40 different commands including opening and closing doors, turning lights on and off, and retrieving dropped objects. The graduation ceremony is the culmination of an intensive, two-week Team Training course completed by these new human/canine teams at Canine Companions™ Northwest Regional Training Center in Santa Rosa.

Topeka, KS--KSDS was honored at a signing of a Proclamation for International Assistance Dog Week at the Kansas state capitol.

Proclamation honors International Assistance Dog Week

KSDS, formerly known as Kansas Specialty Dog Service, of Washington, Kansas, was honored on July 29, 2011 during the official signing of a Proclamation signed by Governor Sam Brownback. KSDS staff, canine partners, and supporters were invited to attend the ceremony. The declaration is in honor of International Assistance Dog Week August 7-13th, 2011, and recognizes KSDS as an organization within the State of Kansas providing assistance dogs.

KSDS’s mission statement is: To promote the independence and inclusion of persons with disabilities as fully participating and contributing members of their communities through canine assistance. To fulfill the mission, KSDS has placed 458 teams in 32 states in the past twenty-one years, and is fully accredited with Assistance Dogs International, the lead organization in the assistance dog industry. KSDS places service, guide, and social dogs.

“KSDS is proud to be honored by the signing ceremony of the Proclamation by Governor Brownback, as a non-profit organization right here in Kansas that breeds, trains and places assistance dogs for persons with disabilities,” said Marcia Funke, Development Coordinator.

Larry Stigge, CEO, commented, “We are proud of our organization and the dogs trained and provided by KSDS to assist people. We thank Governor Brownback and his office for inviting KSDS Staff, Canine Partners, and Puppy Raisers to participate in this event.”

Attending the ceremony from KSDS in Washington were Larry Stigge CEO, Deb Tegethoff Guide Dog Training Instructor, Marcia Funke Development Coordinator, and Letha Nelson Apprentice Guide Dog Trainer and Puppy Raiser. Also witnessing the signing was State Representative Sharon Schwartz of Washington.
