2014: “Service Dogs in Public” Awareness Campaign on Facebook

When: IADW August 3-9th 2014
Where: Online @ Veterans Moving Forward Facebook Page

Veterans Moving Forward (VMF) is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides service dogs at no cost to veterans with  physical and mental health challenges.

There is no time better than International Assistance Dog Week 2014 for VMF to conduct a public awareness campaign on Facebook, with the goal of reaching thousands of individuals, and asking them in turn to spread the word about “things you should know” about service dogs in public.

For each day of the week-long celebration of assistance dogs, VMF is posting tips on “what you need to know.” There are lots of good links, and straightforward information on matters ranging from not disturbing the service dog while it works, to the challenges of travel with a service dog.

The posts also include photos of our own VMF service and facility dogs, and of course our young ADITs.The underlying theme is to “spread the word,” which readers started to do with the very first post. And the best part is our hope that these posts will continue to “spread” even after IADW Week is complete, as public awareness is a critical concern for both VMF and the community of disabled veterans we serve.
