Actress Betty White to be guest on Working Like Dogs

Betty White, Marcie Davis and Morgan

August 2, 2010 | Santa Fe, NM – Working Like Dogs is proud to announce that “Golden Girl” Betty White will be a special guest on the Working Like Dogs radio show on www.petliferadio.com in honor of National Assistance Dog Week, August 8-14.

The extremely popular actress and star of the new TV show “Hot in Cleveland,” wrote the foreword to Working Like Dogs: The Service Dog Guidebook, and has a long history of working on animal issues, including her work with the Morris Animal Foundation.

Betty White will be talking with Marcie Davis, host of the radio show and award-winning author of the Working Like Dogs book. They’ll be discussing topics including Betty’s long-term interest and activism for animals, particularly assistance dogs, her “career change” dog, her latest fundraising efforts for animals, including a steamy calendar and hip clothing line, and more.

National Assistance Dog Week was started in recognition of all the devoted, hardworking assistance dogs helping individuals mitigate their disability-related limitations. Assistance dog organizations and individuals are holding events across the nation to raise awareness about these very special animals. Visit www.assistancedogweek.org to see all the local events.

“People want to know about working dogs. They want to know how to obtain an assistance dog, or if they have an assistance dog, they need information about nutrition, healthcare and retirement to better care for their own dog partners,” Davis says. “The Working Like Dogs podcasts let me provide that information so it’s available to everyone.”

Each week a new topic is presented in the 30-minute shows hosted by Davis and her service dog, Whistle. Guests on the show to date have included dog trainers, puppy raisers, veterinarians, representatives from service dog organizations, the leader of a K-9 correctional team, specialists in working dog equipment, and family members living with a service dog team. This is the first time Betty White has been a guest on the show.

National Assistance Dog Week was established due to the efforts of Marcie Davis, a paraplegic for over 35 years and CEO of Davis Innovations, a consulting firm based in Santa Fe, NM. Davis is the author of Working Like Dogs: The Service Dog Guidebook, and the host of Working Like Dogs, at www.petliferadio.com. As a member of a service dog team, she founded Working Like Dogs to honor assistance dogs around the world and is sponsoring National Assistance Dog Week.
