Transmission swap

I swapped an identical a245e transmission in my 2000 Corolla CE. Do I have to reprogram the TCU or ECU?

It is giving me problems. Shifting gears does not produce any movement for the car. The transmission spins in all gears without engaging.

I have checked that there is fluid flow and have checked the level at operating temperature.

On a related note: I believe the 3 speed A131L automatic transmissions were used through 2002. Were there other automatics installed? The reason I ask is because I am looking to swap an A131L into my '84 to replace the one that is going out (also an A131L). Just want to be sure they're the same and there aren't any variations, like column shift vs. the floor shift I have. I know when I was looking for a Toyota automatic truck transmission, the column shift transmission were different from the floor shift transmissions.
